What is Hot Rolled Steel and what should I expect from the material?

-Hot Rolled Steel or “HRS” is a steel that is formed into sheets by rolling it flat while still red hot, as it cools a thin layer of carbon is left on the surface. This carbon layer is the blue/gray color that many people associate with steel. Although this layer is very hard, it can be unavoidable during the many stages of handling and processing for this surface to encounter small scratches or abrasions. We love steel in a it’s aesthetic and these small imperfections that make each object unique. As a result small scratches in the surface layer can be expected, these will not be visible if a patina is applied to the material or if it is painted, but are considered acceptable in our quality control.

Do I need to paint or otherwise coat my Bendto product?

-Your Bendto product does not require any additional finishing. However if left out in the elements it will rust. If this is not the desired finish, use a clear polyurethane to protect the surface from oxidizing.

How do I decorate or “finish” my Bendto product.

-If you would like to customize your product, your imagination is the only limit, and we’d love to see what you come up with. Please share your customization with us on Instagram #BendTogether

-Various patinas are commercially available, and can be applied directly to our products without removing the carbon layer.

-All products can be painted, we recommend priming your Bento product before applying your desired paint, although there are many available paints that will hold up fine if applied with no primer. (We have had good luck with Rust-Oleum primers, which are available at most hardware stores and many art and craft supply stores.) Our products are also a great candidate for powder coating.

Something was damaged during assembly and how do I get an individual replacement part?

-If you damage an individual part during assembly we will supply you with one free replacement part, but you will be responsible for the cost of shipping.

How do I purchase custom products?

-We do offer custom sized planters and other products.

-Please email us about your project and required dimensions, and we will contact you with 48 hours to confirm your requirements. As soon as we have the required information we will give you price and lead time for your custom Bendto product. (One off customs can be expensive, so this option will be more cost effective in larger quantities.)

Do Bendto products have weight limitations?

-We do not have specific load limits on our products as the first point of failure is generally the anchoring location on the wall or ceiling. Adding heavy loads as with most shelves will cause some deflection. If installed correctly into solid wood our brackets will withstand loads of over 25lbs before showing any signs of bending. Brackets for our Bendto Double Decker Shelf and Coat Rack are heavier duty and designed, when mounted correctly, to hold at least double the weight.

Where do I pick up non-mailable products?

-As we work towards wider distribution we are making a of larger planters that can be picked up in person by appointment in either Denver or Florissant, CO. We realize that this is only going to be an option for a limited number of people and are actively working on a way to be able to add locations and eventually delivery to a much larger area.
